What it means to own your website

Owning your website is different from having one. This is what to look for, in plain words.

Having a site and owning a site are different

Many small businesses have a site that sits inside a builder's platform. It works, but it is a rented space. If the price changes, the company closes, or you want to leave, you may be unable to take it with you.

Owning a website means it runs on hosting in your name, you hold the logins, and you can take the files and your customer data to someone else whenever you choose.

Three things to ask for

The hosting account is in your name. You receive the site's files and the data it collects, and you can ask for them at any time. The agreement says plainly what happens when it ends, and how long you have to receive everything.

How we do it

We set the site up on a hosting account in your name, then run and look after it for a monthly fee. You own the site, its code and your customers' data. If you stop the plan you keep the site, and we hand over the logins, the code and an export of the data. We keep our own tools and templates, and you may keep using them for as long as the site runs.
